I just mowed some of my weedy grass. I don't know how viable the weed seeds are but I would sure like to use grass for mulch.
You can kill seeds by heat. Most experts agree that seeds are killed by temperatures at/above 140˚F. The common outdoor camp fire is 1832˚F. It would be safe to say that putting our dried grass clipping in our biochar can would kill the weed seeds and bugs.
I tried burning one can of garbage (a short burn) to see how the mulched looked after smoking in the can.
Can you see the difference. I can guarantee that this mulch is safe to use without the fear of growing weeds. If I left it a little bit longer, it would have turned all the grass into biochar.
Biochar does seem like magic, but the science is behind it and is becoming more popular everyday. Now I want us to use semi-biochar mulch around our plants. It won't sprout weeds or distribute harmful insects to your garden spot. Make sure to save a bag for your neighbors. They might like to buy it. This is the sales pitch, "I use sanitized mulch. It doesn't have bugs or sprout weeds. Would you like to try a small sack of it? I sell a larger bag for $6.00."
Do you know how much biochar sells for at Amazon. Take a look: Click this Link
Biochar mulch would be a steal at $6.00 a bag.
