First Strawberries

These strawberries were grown in my potato bed. I have about five plants that did not grow very well in some bales I grew last year. The plants shrunk into the bale. One of the reasons for this is that I did not pack in the soil. Even if the bale shrinks the growing hole will not if it is packed in with a tamping 2X4. I now tamp the soil in every bale.

I let the members of my family have a taste. They loved those few little slices. They were sugary sweet. Even the dog loved her share. She kept giving me those perky eyes that mean: give me more, more and more.
