Jiroemon Kimura at 116 was the oldest man alive.
(I did a little editing on his mouth. The picture circulating had his mouth wide opened. Come-on photographers, you should have showed the guy a little respect. Even movie stars get touch-ups.)
Mr. Kimura died at a hospital being treated of pneumonia. He had a loving family that cared for him up to the end. He lived in Japan.
He worked at a post office for 38 years before becoming a farmer. He retired when he was 90-years-old.
He revealed his secrets for long life: Eating small portions with meals three times a day of red bean cake and rice. In his later years, after eating he would recline to his bed and rest until his next meal time.
Kimura was a farmer and a hard worker. He summed up his longevity to this, "It is my own interpretation. But maybe this is due to some unknown forces of nature."
Kimura belongs in the "Long Life Hall of Fame." With all the gimmicks out there to help us become healthier and live longer, he did it without their assistance. He ate a simple diet consisting of rice, red beans, hard work and when he got old lots of rest.
